Chris Whitley's Reiter Inn & Hotel Vast Horizon are two all-time favorites but I can't believe I've overlooked Perfect Day. Medeski, Martin & Wood sound so classy, playing with warmth & feeling. Chris put his own spin on the blues idiom, making it exciting and fresh.
He's recorded amazing covers over the years, this no exception. Chris Whitley really was an underappreciated auteur and suffered economically, physically through his discomfort with industry industry pragmatism.

If Bill Callahan sang "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" in his silky baritone, it would probably sound profound. That's why we, as listeners, are spoiled. Not only does Bill have one of the most beautiful voices in the music, he is also one of America's greatest poets. thepirc
